Can you imagine turning the port into a large urban park with a lake in the middle? Into a park for local residents from Ciutat Vella, El Poble-sec, El Raval and La Barceloneta to enjoy? Into a park for running and doing sport, with beaches for sunbathing and swimming, or with islands you can reach by parasailing or standup paddleboarding?
The ON-A architecture studio proposes transforming the Columbus monument at Port Vell into an enormous tree that will be a symbol of access from La Rambla to a new imaginary park: the Parc Blau.
Transforming a historical monument that exists merely to be observed and that speaks to us of a colonisation that took place in another era represents a new “Colon-isation”.
We can observe the Arbre Colon-itzador [Colon-ising Tree], a symbol of the ports openness towards the city, something full of biodiversity that everyone can enjoy and visit.
Welcome to Parc Blau.
